Insomnia could be helped by acupuncture
Insomnia refers to the inability to have normal sleep including difficulty in falling asleep, inadequate sleep, difficulty staying asleep, or being awake all night in severe cases. It may be a form of neurosis in western medicine.
Insomnia is complicated. It could be related to emotional disturbance, improper diet, over-exertion and a weak constitution. Anxiety and over-stress will impair the heart and spleen, causing an inadequate source of qi and blood, resulting in the failure of nourishment for the heart spirit. Also, fear, terror, or sexual over-indulgence may impair the kidney, causing an excess of heart-fire, and an imbalance between heart-yang and kidney-yin, resulting in a disquieted heart spirit. A weak constitution also causes heart-gallbladder deficiency. Finally, improper diet causes disharmony of the spleen and stomach.
